Extract from Tasmania Police Gazette.

(From Police Gazette , 1884, page 7.) Information is requested by the Superintendent of Police, Hobart, respecting Carl Peters, a German, thirty-five to thirty-seven years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, moustache only, slight build; an upholsterer by trade. Was seen in Launceston about the end of December last. His wife and two children left for New Zealand, and it is supposed he has left, or intends to leave, the colony. Communicate with this office.
