Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

John Welsh is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with stealing, on the 27th July last, at Auckland, a pair of dark-tweed trousers; the property of William Andrews ; value 10s. Identifiable. Description : Irish, a labourer and carter, fifty years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, fair whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in dark-tweed suit, black billycock hat, and very old boots ; had been in the army. He went to the Waikato.

Edwin Wasley, charged on warrant with stealing an iron vice at Rangiora, the property of William Bell, has been arrested by Sergeant-Major Samuel Goodall, Hawera Police, and remanded to Christchurch.

The dolman, the property of Jane Crawford, stolen from the public school, at Tirnaru, has been recovered by Detective Austin Kirby, Timaru Police, and traced to the possession of Charlotte Schoringre, aged eleven years, who was charged with the offence, and was cautioned and discharged.

Turnbull, addressed to Mr. Hugh Wilson, Clerk to Maniototo County Council, and proprietor of the Mount Ida Chronicle, Naseby, has not reached its destination, and is believed to have been stolen. It contained two £1 notes on the Bank of New South Wales, Nos. 20G888 and 233532, and a £1 note on the Bank of New Zealand, No. 1943387. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from the Timaru Cemetery, a pink hyacinth plant; the property of Thomas Hall Wood; value ss.

Stolen between the 16th and 20tli ultimo, from a woolshed at Brooksdale, near Tapanui, 160 rabbitskins ; the property of David McKellar; value £2 ss. Suspicion attached to James Robertson, Scotch, a labourer and rabbiter, fortythree years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, cheeks shaved.

Stolen on the 16th or 17th August last, from the garden of M. M. Levy, Princes Street, Auckland, 40 feet of f-inch indiarubber garden-hose; value £1 10s. Identifiable.

The trunk was shipped at London in the steamer “ Pekin,” was transhipped at Melbourne to the steamer “ Wakatipu,” and was transhipped at Port Chalmers to the steamer “ Maori.”

Stolen between the 27th August last and the 3rd ultimo, from a goods case between Melbourne and Oamaru, via Port Chalmers, six pairs of Victorian tweed trousers and vests, light-and-dark-coloured patterns; the property of John Bullied and Co. ; value £7 10s. The case was shipped in the steamer “Tarawera”at Melbourne, and transhipped to the steamer “Maori ” at Port Chalmers.

Supposed stolen on the 18th ultimo, from a saloon cabin on board the steamer “ Tarawera,” between Wellington and Lyttelton, a gold finger-ring, pattern two hands clasped, heart in centre; the property of Charles O’Malley; value £4. Identifiable.
