Deserters from Merchant Vessels.

(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 144.) Frederic Thomas, charged with deserting from the barque “ Cooleen,” at Oamaru, is not now wanted, as the vessel has left for London.

F. Hansen, W. Peterson, C. Jacobson, O. Martin, B. Zeihohn, M. Peterson, S. Renenson, and A. Anderson, charged with deserting from the barque “ Deva,” at Bluff Harbour, are not now wanted, as the vessel has left for London.

T. Gabrielson is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the barque “Oxford,” at Wellington, on the 26 th ultimo. Description; A Norwegian,

a sailmaker, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight build, fair complexion and hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache.

W. Thomas is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Orient,” at Lyttelton, on the 20th ultimo. Description : English, a steward, thirty-three years of age, 5 feet G inches high, black hair, cleanshaved except black moustache, scar on back of one of ears. He is supposed to have gone to Christchurch or Timaru.

Thomas Thomsen, John Frank, and Daniel Martin are charged with deserting from the barque “ Seatoller,” at The Port, Nelson, during the night of the 2nd instant. Description : Thomsen is a German, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, medium build, dark-brown hair, a few hairs on face ; wears earrings. Frank is a Swede, twenty-seven years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and moustache, extensive tattoo-marks on arms. Martin is English, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair and moustache ; A.C. tattooed on left wrist. A reward of £5 each is offered for their arrest.

William Finnis Harding is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the ship “Oxford,” at Wellington, on the 31st ultimo or Ist instant. Description : English, an apprentice-seaman, eighteen years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, brown hair, no hair on face, lisps slightly. He will likely seek employment on a sheep station.
