The sum of £4 has been awarded to Constable James McCausland, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the barque “ Clynder ” and ship “ Dunscore.” The sum of £3 each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable John Roscoe and Special Constable John Patrick Ward, Nelson Police, in recognition of their services in connection with the arrest of Francis James Hodgson, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Nelson, to twelve months’ labour for stealing 500 sovereigns; the property of the National Bank. The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable William Daly, Christchurch Police, by Mr. P. Duncan, for the recovery of a retriever dog lost by him. The sum of £5 has been awarded by the Auckland City Council to Constable John Ryan, Newmarket Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of Edward Dewar Richards, fined £2 and costs for a breach of “ The Slaughterhouses Act, 1877.”
