Alfred Lewis absconded from the licensed service of Robert Miller, at Groper’s Bush, Southland, on the 3rd instant. Description : A native of the colony, fourteen years of age, 4 feet 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion and hair, face and arms freckled ; dressed in grey-tweed suit, tweed cap, and elastic-side boots. He was licensed from the Caversham Industrial School to Mr. Miller.

John Leaky is charged, on warrant issued by the Waimate Bench, with deserting his wife and five children, at Waimate, since the 11th ultimo. Description : A native of Jersey, a labourer, forty-two years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache ; wore dark-grey tweed paget-coat, no vest, darkprint mole,-kin trowsers, old dark-felt hat, and blucher boots ; speaks very bad English ; fond of drink. He told his wife that he was going to work at a threshing-mill near Makikihi, belonging to Mr. Lovegrove.

A warrant of distress has been issued by the Oarnaru Bench against Robert Campbell, in default of paying £5 fine and 3s. costs, for obstructing Alexander Sutherland, a railway enginedriver, while in the execution of his duty. Description : Scotch, about twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, medium build, pale complexion, thin "features, light-brown hair, cleanshaved except small light moustache; was until recently emplayed as a fireman on the railway at Oarnaru. He is supposed to have gone to Auckland.
