(1.5.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. In pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section three of “The Licensing Act Amendment Act, 1882,” I, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Licensing Districts of Port Chalmers North, Port Chalmers East, and Port Chalmers South shall be amalgamated under the name of the Port Chalmers Licensing District, as from the ninth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three; and that, as from the said date, the said Licensing Districts of Port Chalmers North, Port Chalmers East, and Port Chalmers South shall be abolished. Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Adtniral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this seventh day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. Shooting Season eor Deer in Nelson

Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERYOIS, Governor. In exercise of the powers vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that stags may be taken or killed within the Nelson District from the tenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, to the tenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, both inclusive; and I do hereby notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of one pound each, and that licenses to sell such game shall he issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each ; and the Chief Postmaster at Nelson is hereby appointed to issue the said licenses. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this third day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. THOMAS DICK.

Proclaiming Amnesty under “The Amnesty Act, 1882.”

(1.5.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERYOIS, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. Whereas by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, the Short Title whereof is “The Amnesty Act,

1882,” after reciting that on several occasions theretofore the aboriginal inhabitants of the Colony of New Zealand had been in insurrection against Her Majesty’s authority ; that offences of various kinds, more or less of a political character, had during such insurrections, or consequent thereon, been committed by Maoris ; that disturbances of the public peace and breaches of the law of various kinds had recently taken place on the West Coast of the North Island of the colony ; and that the state of the colony was then such as to justify an amnesty being proclaimed for such offences as aforesaid, and it was expedient to do so : It is among other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette, to declare an amnesty for such offences as aforesaid ; and that such amnesty may be extended to all offences and to all Maoris, or certain offences and certain Maoris may be excepted from the operation thereof; and that the effect of such Proclamation shall be to exempt the Maoris not excepted from the operation thereof from all informations, indictments, prosecutions, and criminal proceedings whatsoever for or in relation to any such offences as aforesaid against the law committed during the continuance of any such insurrection or on the West Coast as aforesaid, or connected therewith or resulting therefrom; and it is also enacted that the term “Maoris” means the aboriginal inhabitants of New Zealand, and includes half-castes and their descendants by Maoris : And whereas it is expedient that effect should be given to the said Act in the manner hereinafter set forth : Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, do hereby proclaim and declare an amnesty for the offences in the said Act mentioned, and do also proclaim and declare that this amnesty shall, subject to the provisions of the said Act, extend to all offences and to all Maoris, and that, subject as aforesaid, there shall be no exception from the operation hereof. Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Yice-Admiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this thirteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. Amalgamating Licensing Districts

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three Edwd. Clerks oe Resident Magistrates’ Courts Appointed.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable Joseph Wilson to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Clinton ; and Sergeant Hugh Nickle to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Campbelltown, vice Constable Routledge, transferred.
