The Dunedin City Council have presented Constable John Dwyer, Dunedin Police, with a silver medal in recognition of his heroic conduct in saving life on the occasion of the fire at Captain Kitchener’s residence, Dunedin, on the Ist July last.

The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Detective Thomas Neil, Christchurch Police, in recognition of the zeal and energy shown by him in the arrest, &c., of John McCallum, committed for trial for breaking into and stealing from a watchmaker’s and jeweller’s shop, and for the recovery of the greater part of the stolen property.

The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable George Cartmill, Malvern Police, in recognition of the praiseworthy smartness shown by him in the arrest of Herman Hempton, committed for trial on five charges of forgery.

The sum of £1 has been awarded by the Manager of the Colonial Bank, Balclutha, to Coustable William Strean, Balclutha Police, in recognition of the efforts made by him to recover the body of Fergus Ferguson, who was drowned in the Clutha Kiver on the 23rd July last.

The sum of £2 10s. has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Baptist Crawford Wallace, Christchurch Police, in recognition of the zeal shown by him in the prosecution of Robert Skiffms, fined £lO for sly grog-selling.

The sum of £4 has been awarded to Constable James Cleary, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of John Lloyd, sentenced to one month’s labour for deserting from the barque “ Coromilla.”

The Bum of £1 has been awarded to Constable Robert McClelland, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of Frank Sharpies, sentenced to seven days’ labour for deserting from the barque “ Thorne.”

The sum of £4 has been awarded to Sergeant Morice, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of a seaman who deserted from the barque “ Gerd Heye,” at Timaru.

On the 27th or 28th ultimo, at Waitohi Flat, near Temuka, a chaff-cutter, the property of James Cross, was maliciously broken and damaged to the extent of about £4.

On the 31st ultimo or the Ist instant, at the Maori Pa, near Manutahi, a horse, value £35, the property of Samuel Bradley Corrigan, was maliciously wounded with shot. Suspicion attached to Maoris in whose corn the horse wa3 trespassing.
