A MAN, name unknown, is charged with having indecently assaulted Adelaide Mary Brook, aged seven years, in an unoccupied house in Kilmore Street, Christchurch, between noon and 1 p.m. on the 18th ultimo. Description : Between fifty and sixty years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, very red face and nose, thin scraggy grey beard whiskers
and moustache, drunken debauched appearance; wore old blue or black sac-coat, dark-tweed trousers, and old black wideawake hat. Identification doubtful.
(See Police Gazette, 1882, page 155.) Patrick Ryan, charged with fraudulent bankruptcy, committed at Tirnaru, has been arrested by the Melbourne Police.

The man, name unknown, charged with assaulting Constable John O’Donovan while in the execution of his duty, has been arrested by Detective Lionel D. Benjamin, Wellington Police, and discharged. His name is Eugene Joyce.

Obtaining goods and money from J. Watt by means of a valueless cheque : A warrant has been issued by the Wellington Bench in this case for the arrest of Daniel Mann, alias William G. Graham, alias J. D. Gray, sentenced at Christchurch on the 10th July last to three years’ penal servitude for forgery and uttering.
Herman Hempton is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with forging the name of James Martin to a promissory note for £248, at Christchurch, on the 12th July last. Description: A German, a corn storekeeper, about forty years of age, 6 feet high, square build, fair hair, long fair beard whiskers and moustache, but may now he clean-shaved, active appearance, well educated, speaks good English. He is supposed to have left Lyttelton on the 14th instant by steamer for the North, and will likely endeavour to leave the colony. There are several other similar charges pending against him.
