A man, name unknown, is chai’ged with stealing, on the 7tli ultimo, at Waipukurau, a light-blue crochet-work berlin-wool shawl; the property of Mrs. Caroline May ; value £2. Identifiable. Description: About forty yeai-s of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, long dark beard and moustache; wore blue overcoat. He was riding a horse, and went in the direction of Waipukurau. Mrs. May lost the shawl on the road, and the offender, soon after he found it, was asked to give it up, but declined to do so.

Stolen about the 20th ultimo, from off a hoi’se at Opunake, a neai‘ly-new colonial-made saddle, green hide seat and imitation pigskin flaps, “ Robt. Crawford” written with ink on inside of near Hap, stain from blood on lining near crupper-ring, rusty irons, and a single-rein bridle with blue foi’ehead band; the pi-opei ty of Robert Crawford ; value £3 10s. Identifiable. Maoris suspected.
