Rewards. The sum of £5 has been awarded to Sergeant Charles Rutledge, Campbelltowii Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the barque “ Peter Godeffroy.”

The sum of £1 has been awarded by a Mr. Campbell to Constable John Cavanagh, Tauranga Police, for the recovery of a horse supposed to have been stolen.

The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable John Watt, New Plymouth Reserve Force, in recognition of his very creditable promptness in extinguishing a fire in the Windsor Castle Hotel, New Plymouth, on the morning of the 6th instant.

The sum of £1 has been awarded by Messrs. A. R. Kelsey and Co. to Constable llogan, Dunedin Police, in recognition of his attention to duty and watchfulness in discovering their music warehouse in Princes Street open on the night of the 20th ultimo.

The sum of £6 has been awarded to Sergeant John Bevin, Dunedin Police, for the arrest of two apprentices who deserted from the ship “ Akaroa,” at Port Chalmers.

The sums of £3 and £2 respectively have been awarded to Detective Samuel Brennan and Sergeant Henry Martin, and the sums of £3, £2, and £1 respectively to Constables W. J. Rist, Thomas Collis, and John Strathern, Auckland Police, for the arrest of eleven stragglers from Her Majesty’s ship “ Nelson.”

The sum of £1 has been awarded by Captain Davis to Detective William L. Chrystal, Wellington Police, for the recovery of a terrier stolen from him.

Charles London, of Halcombe, has reported that within the last three months four cows and a calf, his property, were maliciously poisoned with phosphorous. Between the Ist ultimo and 2nd instant ho found four potatoes full of phosphorous on his land, which he believes were placed there with intent to poison his cattle. The police are of opinion that the cattle died from eating tutu, and that the potatoes were placed on Mr. London’s land with intent to poison his pig 3, as they annoyed an adjoining settler by trespassing on his land.

Between the Ist and sth instant eight panes of glass, value £2, were maliciously broken in an unoccupied house at Avonside, Christchurch, the property of George Beattie.

On the 10th instant the name “ Glendermid,” painted on front of the Glendermid Railway-station, near Port Chalmers, the property of the Government, was maliciously besmeared with tar, and damaged to the extent of £l.

On the 9tli or 10th instant, at Kirwee, Canterbury, a bridle and martingale and two head-collars, the property of George Franks, were maliciously cut across in several places, and damaged to the extent of £l.
