About 6 p.m. on the Bth instant two pieces of railway-rails, one about 40-lb. and the other over 13-lb. weight, were maliciously placed across one of the rails of the Waimato Rail-way-line. On the following morning a stone was found on one of the rails at the same place.

A man, who gave his name as William Graham, is charged with having obtained, on the 25th ultimo, from J. Watt, stationer, Willis Street, Wellington, goods and money, value £4, by means of a valueless cheque. Description: Scotch, about forty-four years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build, full dark beard slightly mixed with grey at chin ; wore blueserge suit and hat, respectable appearance. Identifiable. He purchased three volumes of Dickens’s Household Edition, bound in green cloth ; a dark-leather pocketbook, 7 or 8 inches long; and ordered that the Australian Sketcher be sent to him for three months to Te Ore Ore, and received £2 9s. 3d. in cash. drawn by J. D. Gray in favour of Mr. Graham, and was indorsed “ William Graham ”by the offender. He is believed to be identic d with John Graham, alias J. B. James Geegsley is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with embezzling, on the 3rd instant, at Auckland, £l4l Is. lid.; the property of Ebenczer Hadrill. Description : English, a steward, waiter, station-hand, &c., twenty years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, no hair on face, rather large mouth, good teeth, fond of playing billiards and cards, and when under the influence of drink inclined to be rowdy. He was employed as steward on board the Kaipara Company’s steamers when he embezzled the money. He is supposed to have gone to Napier or Waikato.

Description : A German, a farmer, forty years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark-brown hair, slight beard whiskers and moustache, large mouth, prominent teeth, supposed one missing from under jaw; wore dark-tweed suit and low hardfelt hat. lie was bound over in his own recognizance to appear on the 16th instant at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, to answer a charge of fraudulent bankruptcy, but he did not appear.

Between the 27tli ultimo and 14th instant a number of sur-vey-pegs, marking the Otago Central Railway-line, were unlawfully pulled out of the ground at Hyde, and driven into the ground in other places.

Chaeles Kiek Chatwin is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, withtfraudulent bankruptcy, committed at Auckland on or about the 21st April last. Descriptions English, a carpenter and contractor, about thirty-five years of
