Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Arthur Thompson is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with stealing, on the 29th December last, at Auckland, a green box, “J. Lowe, ship Wanganui, Auckland, N.Z.” thereon, two pairs of worsted stockings with white tops and toes, three blue-and-white-cotton shirts, a pair of white blankets, a pair of cotton sheets, a blue-and-wliite-eotton quilt, a comb and brush, a pocket-knife with brown wooden handle, and a sailors’ dark-blue box with waterproof cover, no handles ; the property of John Lowe; value £ll7s. 6d. Identifiable. Description : A sailor, about twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, thin features, short black hair, clean-shaved, a hole in teeth caused by pipe. He went south from Auckland on the 291 h December last by the steamer “ Oreti,” accompanied by Martha Jane Lowe, complainant’s wife, English, thirty-three years of age, medium height, fresh complexion, brown hair, good-looking, who has eloped with him.

Stolen on the 29th or 30th ultimo, from the slaughter-yard of George Bull, at Addington, a white-lieifer hide, branded G.B. with tar on off side ; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen between the sth and 10th ultimo, from the railway goods-shed at Hamilton, a sack of bonedust, about 2ewt., sack marked P ; the property of M. Pickering ; value £l.

Stolen during the night of the 23rd ultimo, from the garden of the Rev. Evens, at Cambridge, a hive of bees and a beehive ; value £2. Since recovered.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from the Union Hotel stables, Invercargill, a new dark-tweed waterproof-coat, very large size, two pockets on right side and one on left side, slit at back with three or four small black-horn buttons ; the property of William Anderson Lyon; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from the platform of the Christchurch railway station, a corn-sack containing a light-brown tweed coat, a pair of light-brown tweed trousers, four or five grey-striped woollen shirts considerably worn, a greyish-blue blanket, a light-yellow blanket, a pocketbook, and a few of Moody and Sankey’s hymn-books; the property of William Williams ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 18th or 19th ultimo, from an outhouse at Ilikutaia, near the Thames, a claw hammer, a shingle hammer with claw attached, a fore-quarter of mutton, and about five quarts of milk; the property of Thomas Minchin ; value 13s. 6d. Hammers identifiable.

Stolen on the 20th or 21st ultimo, at South Dunedin, two tether ropes about 25 feet long, with iron peg attached, and a piece of a tether rope about 10 feet long; the property of Michael O’Connor ; value ss.

Description : About fourteen years of age, about 5 feet high, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair; wore grey-tweed jacket and soft black-felt hat. Supposed identifiable.
