Missing Friend. Philip Martinis Griffith, who left Ireland in 1861 for Melbourne, He wrote home in September, 1862, stating he was going to the New Zealand gold fields. In 1865 it is believed he was in Melbourne, and went to the Murray, 250 miles from Melbourne. Griffith is entitled to a considerable amount of property. —O. 6758. —28th October, 1881.

Murder. —£loo Reward. —Whereas on the 19lh August Hannah Osman was found, with her throat cut, in the porch of the Railway Inn, at Bredbury, near Stockport, in the County of Cheshire, from the effects of which she died on the 23rd August. And whereas a verdict of wilful murder has been returned by a coroner’s jury against her husband, William Osman. He is described as being about thirty years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, lightish complexion, blue eyes, thin nose, proportionate build, round - shouldered, stoops when walking, light-brown moustache, no whiskers, close-shaved, by trade a coppersmith; has also managed a publichouse; is a betting man, and when he absconded is believed to have been without money. Supposed to be dressed in light-drab hardfelt hat and dark-brown tweed suit, reefer-cut coat. Has worked at his trade in, Russia, and also about Birmingham ; has managed a publichouse near Birmingham. His friends reside at Smethwick, near Birmingham. Has lately been sleeping out, and will no doubt endeavour to leave the county. The police are respectfully requested to search lodgingbouses, haystacks, out-buildings, and tramp wards; also cause watch to be kept at railway stations and outward-bound steamers. The above reward will be paid by Her Majesty’s Government to any person (other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give information as shall lead to the discovery and apprehension of the said William Osman, or other the murderer or murderers, upon his or their conviction; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty’s gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shail lead to the like result. Information to any police station, or to the Deputy Chief Constable, Constabulary Station, Stockport.—27th August, 1881.—O. 6842. —2nd November, 1881.
