Horse and Cattle Stealing.

The bay mare, the property of John Buchhols, supposed stolen from a paddock at Blueskiu Road, is now supposed to he in possession of a resident at Brighton. She was seen about three weeks ago standing at an hotel-door at Green Island.

Supposed stolen during the night of the 22nd October last, from Waipawa, a black mare, hack-breed, seven years old, about 14£ hands high, blaze on face, three fetlocks white, one of houghs swollen, white spot on near side from saddle-gall, indistinct brand on off shoulder, shows the white of eyes a good deal when handled, high-spirited appearance ; the property of John H. Jull; value £7. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to William Carswell, a horse-breaker, who was seen riding a mare answering the description of Mr. Jull’s mare, about a month ago, between Waipawa and Kaikora.

Stolen about the 4th March last, from Port Albert, a chestnut horse, strong hack-breed, aged, white face, three fetlocks white, branded H on neck ; and a bay saddle-mare, six years old, about 14 hands high, black points, unbranded; the property of John Shephard. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo from Gwavas Run, near Hampden, Hawke’s Bay, a bay saddle-gelding, aged, 15 hands high, branded JP conjoined on off shoulder, no star, black points, stiff legs, high-boned; the property of John Peers; value £B. Identifiable. Also an old bullock-hide saddle, small knee-pads, flaps torn, pommel broken, lining patched with white-flannel rags, leather girth, and oval stirrup-irons ; the property of Campbell; value £1 10s. Identifiable. A man, who gave his name as Bill McGregor, was seen riding the stolen horse away. Description: Eighteen or twenty years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, small features, long neck, burn-scar on right eyebrow; wore woollen knitted jacket, strapped tweed trousers, and soft drab-felt hat; carried a small swag. He said his father was a shoemaker at Foxtou. Supposed to have gone to Foxton via the Seventy-Mile Bush.
