His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable John Haddock to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Dargaville, and Clerk of the Licensing Court for the District of Kaipara, from the 12th instant, vice Constable Bourke. Place of Deposit of Standard Weights and Measures, Christchurch. Colonial Secretary’s Office, Wellington, 23rd July, 1881. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by “ The Weights and
Measures Act, 1868,” to direct that the authorized copies of the standard weights and measures for the District of Christchurch shall be deposited at the Police Buildings, in Hereford Street, Christchurch.

In exercise of the powers vested in me by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the Governor of the Colony of Hew Zealand, do hereby notify that hares shall cease to come within the operation of the said Act within the District of South Canterbury, as defined in a notification of the said Act dated the thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the fourteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one. As witness the hand of his Excellency the Governor, this second day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Sergeant Thomas O’Grady to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures for the Hauraki District, vice Sergeant E. Louis, resigned.
