The sum of £lO each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constables James A. Townsend and C, H. Colborne,
Otago Police, in recognition of their diligence in following up, and, at the risk of their lives, effecting the arrest of the armed offender, Robert Butler, sentenced at the last sittings of the Supreme Court at Dunedin to eighteen years’ penal servitude for burglary.
The sum of 10s. each has been awarded to Constables Peter McDonald, and Patrick Walsh, Wellington Police, for the recovery of £8 lost by Campbell Shaw.
The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Patrick Chambers, Kumar a Police, in recognition of his vigilance in discovering the house of John Monahan, at Kumara, on fire, which he promptly extinguished, thereby preventing the destruction of property.
A police station has been formed at Stratford, and at Normanby, in the Taranaki District.
About 5.30 p.m. on the Ist instant two stones were maliciously thrown into the Central Hotel at Ashburton, which broke a window, a lamp-globe, and three lamp-glasses, two fancy spirit jars, and a bottle of whiskey; the property of Joseph Baldwin ; value £ll 12s. 6d.
