(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 36.) Mart Carroll, charged with the larceny as a bailee of two tables, &c., the property of Catherine Grant, has been arrested by the Dunedin Police, and discharged.

Taapu and Mouriki are charged, on warrant issued by the Whakatane Bench, with stealing, between the 10th January and the 20th February last, from Oporiau, 130 totara posts; the property of Conway G. Murphy. Description: Taapu is a Maori, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, black hair and eyes, and small moustache. Mauriki is a Maori, about forty years of ago, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, black hair and eyes, extensive tattoo-marks on face, very deaf. They are supposed to be in the bush between Ruatoki and Ruatahuna.

John Reed alias Breed is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, on the 7th

instant, at Wellington, of a number of books, a looking-glass, a meat-safe, two pictures, and a cap, value £1 45., since recovered ; the property of Mathew James Symes. Description : English, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; wore long grey-waterproof coat, moleskin trousers, bluecloth cheese-cutter cap, and lace-up boots ; very talkative, and fond of drink. He has gone to Eeatherston.

(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 73.) The bridles, &c., stolen from the stable of Lintott and Otterson, have been recovered, and three boys named James Black, Hugh McCulloch, and Alexander McCulloch arrested for the offence by Detective Thomas Livingston, Oamaru Police, and remanded for seven days.

Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the stable of Hans Peter Sorenson, at Marton, a hogskin saddle, about two years in use, considerably worn, near flap recently repaired, new stirrupleathers, and new bar-pattern irons; an old double-rein bridle with pelham bit, and an old single-rein bridle with snaffle bit and red forehead-band; value £4 10s. Identifiable. It is believed that the saddle and bridles were stolen by the offender C. Carey, alias Kelly. (See Police Gazette, 1880, pages 53, 54, 64, and 74.)

Stolen on the 6th instant, from the door of the Bank of New Zealand, Lambton Quay, a brown-paper parcel, containing fifty screw-bolts, 4 inches long by « of an inch in diameter, and twelve axle-clips with nuts at each end; the property of Michael Bohan ; value J 6s. 6d.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from a boat at Havelock, two ash oars, 15 feet long, and five rowlocks; the property of Arthur Simpson; value £2 7s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 24th ultimo, on board the ship “ City of Quebec,” at Auckland, an open-faced silver lever watch, No. 4876, maker William Randcliffe, Liverpool; a silver albert guard and key, and a brass key marked “ Boyce, Exmouth ;” the property of William Pattridge ; value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 23rd ultimo, from the clothesline of Edward Frith, Waterloo Quadrant, Auckland, two unbleached twill sheets ; value 10s. Identification doubtful.

Description: Supposed English, between twenty-two and twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high,, medium build, no hair on face; wore blue sac coat, light-coloured-tweed trousers, and soft black-felt hat. Identification doubtful. He sold the tools to Thomas March, a dealer, in King Street.
