Charles Lafbvre, alias Frenchy, is charged with stealing) about the 25th ultimo, from the dwelling of Emma "Wright) North Boad, Oamaru, an oval gold brooch, plain front, small loop at bottom for pendant; value £3 10s. Identifiable. Description: French, forty-five years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, dark complexion and eyes, hair turning grey ; wore grey-tweed coat, moleskin trousers, and tweed cap. He went towards Timaru. No warrant issued.

Stolen between the 16tli ultimo and 16th instant, from the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, a reddish-brown sealskin jacket with a deep piece of otter skin of a light-brown shade fastened with hooks round bottom, lined with quilted satin, pocket on left side, hole near right armpit, value £36 155.; a nearly-new long dark-grey ulster overcoat with belt, soft woolly texture, lined with grey twill, two outside pockets and an inside left-breast pocket, value £5 ; and an old long black-tweed overcoat, faded green, black lining, red-woollen cuff's with elastic bands, Talue £1 10s.; the property of Lady Tancred. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 6th and Bth instant, from the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Feilding, a tin japanned cash-box, between 18 and 24 inches long, about 8 inches broad and high, darkbrown colour, with gilt bands on top, containing a £5 note on the Bank of Australasia, No. 5149, and 14s. in silver; the property of Arthur R. T. Haultain. Cash-box and £5 note identifiable. The cash-box also contained copies of the following documents in the case of Herman Rockell, committed for trial for forgery, viz.: Copy of cheque for £53 on the Bank of New South Wales, Bull’s, dated 10th ultimo, drawn by A. Amon in favour of A. Campion ; copy of cheque for £1 on same bank, dated 10th December, 1879, drawn by Arthur Amon in favour of self; copy of cheque for £2 on same bank, dated 26th December, 1879, drawn by Thomas Fraser in favour of Hopkins; copy of a letter from H. Howell, dated Foxton, 26th February, 1880, to the Manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Bull’s, asking him to cash cheque and remit money, and copy of the Manager’s (J. Gordon Hogg) reply thereto declining to cash cheque, &c. ; copy of an envelope addressed to the Manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Bull’s, bearing Foxton and Bull’s postmarks of the 27th ultimo ; and copy of an envelope addressed H. Howell, Foxton, bearing Bull’s and Foxton postmarks of the 28th ultimo. The documents are in Sub-Inspector Goodall’s writing.

Suspicion attached to James Friars, Scotch, a labourer, twenty-nine years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slight build, fair hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, long neck; wore blue-serge suit and hard black-felt hat and old shoes. A reward of £5 is offered for the recovery of the property.

Stolen between the 6th and Bth instant, from the office of Robert Spiers Sparrow, near Rattray Street Wharf, Dunedin, a powder-flask with brass top and spring, containing about i lb. of powder; a shot-pouch with brass top, spring broken, black-elastic band round broken part; and about 2s. worth of postage and revenue stamps; value Bs. Powder-flask and shot-poucli identifiable.

Stolen between the 2nd and sth instant, from the dwelling of Charles Mason, at Green Island, an oval gold locket, the leaf of a tree on one side and “Mizpah” on the other, Mr. Mason’s likeness inside; a gold chain attached, small round plain-link pattern; and a pair of plain gold earrings; value £3. Stolen on the 27tU ultimo, from the person of Frederick Sibbald, at Caversham, seven £1 notes on the Colonial Bank.

Stolen on the 4th instant, from the dwelling of CatherineDay, Q.ueen Street, Dunedin, a small pasteboard box, containing a round silver brooch, polished convex centre and chased edges; an oval silver locket, half chased, containing a woman’s likeness - r a small oval gold locket with heart on one side ; a pair of pink sleeve studs, a bottle of scent, and a £1 note ; value £1 133. 6d. Brooch and lockets identifiable. The silver locket has been recovered, and ti’aced to the possession of Ernest Sydney James and Harry Conway, who have been arrested by Detective Alexander Henderson, Dunedin Police.

Stolen about the 6th instant, from the dwelling of W. G. Clarke, Kyber Pass Road, Auckland, a double-breasted greytweed galatea coat; lining at sides and sleeves has been repaired ; value £1 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 13th instant, from a bedroom in the Railway Hotel, Frankton, a very broad heavy gold mourning ring, black enamel band and old English letters on outside, a small plait of dark hair covered with glass which is cracked in Iwo places, “ William and Hannah Horncastle” engraved on inside; the property of Lewis .Tames ; value about £2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to James Goodrum, a native of the colony, about, nineteen years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, fair freckled complexion, sandy hair; when last seen wore dark-tweed coat, light-tweed trousers, and blaek-felt Yankee bat; a good runner.

Stolen abont the 11th instant, from the office of Captain Casey, Queen Street Wharf, Auckland, a double-barrel muzzleloading gun ; the property of Meredian Rountree; value £5. Identifiable.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to John Philbrook and Charles Gibson, who were sleeping in the house with him. Description : Philbrook is English, about twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, black hair and moustache, cheeks shaved ; wore black paget coat, coloured moleskin trousers, soft black-felt hat, and lace boots. Gibson is English, about twentyseven years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved except fair moustache; wore black paget coat, cord trousers, soft black-felt hat, and lace boots.

At 3 o’clock on the morning of the 17th instant an attempt was made to enter through the kitchen window the dwelling of Mrs. Brayslmw, Great King Street, Dunedin.

Stolen about 8 p.m. on the 17th instant, from the dwelling of Thomas Ilalliwell, High Street, Dunedin, two £5 notes and two sovereigns. A quantity of female clothing and books stolen at the same time were found tied in a shawl among some bushes on an adjoining section of land. The house was set on fire in three places by the offender, but it was soon after discovered and extinguished.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Robert Neodle and John Ellis Card, who were in the hotel at the time the jewellery was stolen. Description: Neodle is English, a butcher, thirty years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, clean-shaved except light moustache; wore lighttweed suit and light wideawake hat. Card is li’isli, a butcher, about thirty-five years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers and moustache; wore black coat, dark tweed trousers and vest, and hard black-felt hat.
