Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1879, page 191.) The warrant issued for the arrest of William Iledley Rodman, charged with failing to provide his wife and three children with adequate means of support, has been cancelled.
(See Police Gazette, 1879, page 191.) Robert Moore, charged with deserting his wife and family at Oamaru, has been arrested by Sergeant George Conryn, Balclutha Police.
David Richmond is charged, on warrant issued by the Invercargill Bench, with deserting his wife and two children, at Lowther, on the 3rd or 4th of July last. Description: Scotch, a ploughman, twenty-two years of age, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet high, stout build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, small fair whiskers and moustache, large mouth, large cut mark on right temple. (See Police Gazette, 1878, page 176.) It is supposed he has gone to Dunedin or Christchurch.
Christopher Fagan is charged, on warrant issued by the Palmerston Bench, with deserting his wife at Palmerston South on the 2nd instant. Description : Irish, twenty-eight years of age, 6 feet high, medium build, slightly stooped, rather long nose, pale complexion, brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache ; wore light-tweed suit, brown or light-colour felt hat, and elastic-side boots.
John Keleher is charged, on warrant issued by the Thames Bench, with deserting his wife and family, at the Thames, since the 29tli of July last. Description: A labourer, thirty-two years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches High, dark complexion. It is supposed lie has gone to Waikato.
James Gamble is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with failing to pay for the support of his children, who are inmates of the Auckland Industrial School. Description : Irish, a labourer, forty years of age, 6 feet high, medium build, military appearance, square shoulders, dark-brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, sometimes shaves his chin, slightly pockpitted. He is supposed to be working on the railway line between Inglewood and Stratford.
Henry Mitchell is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with failing to pay for the support of his children, who are inmates of the Auckland Industrial School. Description : English, a labourer, about forty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light-brown hair and whiskers, sometimes shaves his upper lip.
John Clarkson is charged, on warrant issued by the Papaturn Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at Papakura on the 27th ultimo to answer a charge of having travelled on the Auckland and Ohaupo Railway without a ticket. Description : Scotch, a coal-miner, forty-two years of age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, straight nose, and large mouth ; wore dark-tweed coat and vest, moleskin trousers, old cap, and lace-up boots ; fond of drink. He will likely be employed as stoker on a coastal steamer.
(Sec Police Gazette, 1879, pages 80 and 198.) Albert Potter, charged on warrant with deserting his wife, has been arrested by Sergeant John Cullen, Blenheim Police.

The warrant issued for the arrest of William Everest, charged with deserting his wife, at Palmerston South, has been cancelled.
