Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

William Edwin Urrt is charged, on warrant issued by the Rangiora Bench, with stealing, on the 23rd ultimo, from the dwelling of Samuel Waters, at Rangiora, about £l7 in gold, about £3 in notes, a square brown box marked Samuel Waters, ship ‘Waikato,’” containing two suits of children’s clothing, six towels, an oil-cloth table-cover, a silver teapot, some silver spoons, about six common knives and forks, two white blankets, about six linen sheets, and a patched counterpane ; value £5. Identifiable except the money. Description : English, a labourer, about twenty-four years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, small fair whiskers and moustache ; wore dark paget coat, and cross-bar-tweed trousers and vest. He drove to the Christchurch Railway Station, accompanied by complainant’s wife and boy about three years old.

A man, name unknown, is charged with having, about 9 p.m. on tho 24-th ultimo, at Barrack Hill, Auckland, assaulted and robbed Sarah Xerslake of two half-sovereigns, about 10s. in silver, and a new plaid shawl; value £l. Shawl identifiable. Description: Medium height, sandy beard and moustache^

cheeks shaved ; wore light coat, coloured trousers patched with brown on knees, and white hat; dirty appearance.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the office of the Evening Telegraph, Timaru, a double-case English silver lever watch, considerably worn; maker’s name, Reid, on works and dial, front outer case docs not close tight, steel chain attached; the property of Henry Evans ; value £5 10s. Identifiable. Thomas Blake, a boy employed in the office, suspected. Description: About eleven years of age, light-brown hair, fair complexion ; wears old brown-tweed suit.

Stolen about the 22nd ultimo, from the Charitable Aid Office, Armagh Street, Christchurch, five bottles of brandy and a bottle of wine ; the property of John E. March; value £1 ss.

Description : Scotch, seventeen years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes.

On the morning of the 23rd ultimo the store of Thomas William Chandler, at Brown’s Bridge, Amberley, was broken into, but nothing was stolen.

During the night of the 21st or morning of the 22nd ultimo an attempt was made to break into the Customhouse at Invercargill.

Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from the shop-door of E. M. Lo water, Cuba Street, Wellington, a slate-colour large cheekpattern tweed trousers and vest; value £1 4s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 20th and 24th ultimo, from the dwelling of Andrew John Norbeg, at Blenheim, two £5 notes on the Bank of New Zealand and three sovereigns.

Stolen between the 16th and 18th ultimo, from a hut at the Teremakau Bridge, a box containing about 30s. in silver; the properly of the Kumar a Hospital Committee. The box has since been found in the bush near the bridge, broken open.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to George Hutchinson, who was then employed as boots in the hotel. Stolen between the Ist of June and the 29th of July lust, from the dwelling of Joseph Glenny, at Devonport, Auckland,

the miniature of a dark-complexioned man with long whiskers, painted on ivory, set in a silver-backed case with round border on front, oval top, straight bottom, and silver loop to hang it. Identifiable.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Elizabeth Morrison, who was employed as servant in the house. Description: English, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, respectable appearance; usually wears black dress and whitestraw hat with ostrich feathers.

Stolen on the 7th ultimo, from the Masonic Hotel, Gisborne, an English gold hunting lever watch, No. 45592, maker Ehrardt; the property of Alexander McLeod ; value £25. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Joseph Koderick, a Portuguese, a cook, thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, sallow, complexion, dark-brown hair and eyes, thick beard and moustache, cheeks shaved ; wore black coat, light-tweed trousers, and white straw hat with ribbon round it. Deleft Gisborne on the Bth ultimo by steamer for Auckland.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the dwelling of William Henry Parnell, Holland Street, Wellington, a ladies’ long gold chain, round close-link pattern, an oval gold locket, a pair of gold earrings, square pattern, with crystal drop, a gold ring with bloodstone, value £l2, and 12s. fid. in silver. Jewellery identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man only known as “ Patsey.” Description : Irish, a labourer, twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, no hair on face except small sandy moustache ; wore dark rep-jacket, moleskin trousers, white soft-felt hat, and watertight boots.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the tent of John Vinerick, at Aramoho, near Wanganui, two blue blankets, sewn together, a black oilskin coat, a tent fly, three new pairs of white socks, a round looking-glass, and a towel; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the whareof Robert Pecket, at Kaikora, Hawke’s Bay District, a £5 note on the Bank of Australasia, and a£l note. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was seen in the whare on that day. Description : Supposed English, about nineteen years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, no hair on face, large nose, awkward appearance ; wore old grey-tweed suit, coloured scarf, and grey wideawake hat.

Stolen between the 21st and 29th ultimo, from a house at Musselburgh, near Dunedin, three weights, 500,400, and 200 lb., a nearly-new scythe with handle, and a large screw wrench ; the property of George Harrington; value £l 6s. Identifiable.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to William McGuire and two other men, names unknown, who were drinking with complainant. Description : McGuire is supposed Irish, a cabdriver, about thirty years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, clean-shaved except

moustache. Complainant can give no description of the other men.
