(See Police Gazette, 1879, page 145.) Timothy Whelan, charged on warrant with stealing a purse containing a cheque and money the property of Alexander Ireland, lias been arrested by Constable John Dunuot, Lowther Police. The cheque has been recovered.

It has been ascertained that Alexander Grant is the name of the man charged on warrant with stealing four registered letters from a mail bag on board the steamor “ Rotorua ” between Napier and Auckland. He left Auckland on the 27th of May, by tho steamer “ Zcalandia,” for San Francisco. He is a native of Tasmania.

Stolen about the loth instant, from the fowlhouse of William Blackwood, at Caversliam, three white ducks and a white drake; value 16s. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 20th instant, from tho clothes-line of Charles Malay, Martin Street, Wellington, a pair of whito-and-brown ribbed knitted woollen socks, a white-flannel undershirt, neck bound with white calico, a large brown-and-white cotton counterpane, a small hole burnt hear tho centre, and about ten yards of calico ; value 15s. Identifiable, except the calico.

Stolen about tho 12th instant, from the premises of Mathew G. Scott, Upper York Place, Dunedin, a nearly pair of white moleskin trousers, a blue-and-white-striped cotton shirt, a pair of white woollen stockings, a pair of white-cotton stockings, a cotton pillow-case, a white-cotton night-cap, three grey ducks, and a black-and-white drake; value £2 2j3. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 2nd and 6th instant, from the goldmining claim of William Jones, Ballarat Terrace, Charleston, a tub of black sand, supposed to contain gold; value £4O.

Stolen about the 7th instant, from the clothes-line of William Lockwood, Franklin Street, Auckland, a coarse-linen tabic-cloth, two diaper table-cloths, four chemises, a ladies’ pair of drawers, marked “ K. Farley,” a ladies’ night-dress, marked “Glen,” a sheet, a pair of children’s drawers, and two holland aprons; value £1 10s. Night-dress and ladies’ drawers identifiable,

Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from the coach at Ohinemutu, four new grey military siugle blankets and a large bull’s-eye dark lantern, with the glass slightly broken or chipped near side ; the property of the Government; value £1 16s. Lantern identifiable; identification of blankets doubtful.

Stolen about the 17th ultimo, from a house in course of erection in Victoria Street, Christchurch, a tenon saw, with steel back and white Yictorian-box handle, marked like AM on handle; the property of Alexander Murchison; value Bs. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 11th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Joseph Fletcher Anderson, York Place, Dunedin, two white-flannel undershirts, supposed marked “ J. F. Anderson,” a white twillcotton night-shirt, JFA on breast, a pair white-flannel drawers, a white-cotton night-dress, marked “ Lizzie Anderson ” on one of plaits, a child’s white-calico night-dress with frill on neck and breast, and a pair of ladies’ whit e-calico drawers with insertion at bottoms ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 6th instant, from the clothes-line of Thomas Eldridge, Hereford Street, Christchurch, two flannel undershirts, two grey-and-white-plaid woollen shirts, a pair of grey-tweed trousers with pocket at side for carpenters’ rule, a"pair of whitecotton drawers, and six pairs of grey military socks; value £1 Ins. Identifiable.

Stolen on. tho 9th instant, from the fowlhouse of George Voss, at Ohariu Valley, two black-and-white hens ; value 4s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen about the 15th instant, from the cart of John Butler Yesbet, at Sydenham, three sheep-skins, branded Y, with tar on centre of back ; value 10s. Identifiable.

A letter posted at Wellington on the 29th ultimo, and another posted at Reefton on the 30th ultimo, both addressed to Montague Pym, Dunedin, have not been received by him, and are supposed to have been stolen. The letter posted at Reefton contained a crossed cheque for £6 ss. on the National Bank, Reefton ; the one posted at Wellington contained a cheque for £lO Is., drawn by L. T. Clayton, on the Colonial Bank, Wellington, in favour of Mr. Pym. Cheques identifiable.

Stolen on the 18th instant, at Weka Pass, Canterbury, a heavy bullock-hide saddle, may be stamped “ Wood,” odd stirrup-irons, one smaller than the other, about six years in use, sewing of one of stirrup-leathers ripped at buckle, and a common snaifie-bridle, red forehead-band, heavy rein tied with cord at centre; the property of Hugh Vallauce ; value £4. Identifiable.

A MAN, name unknown, is charged with stealing, on the 18th instant, from Princes Street, Dunedin, a £1 note ; the property of Funny Orr. Description: About thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, stout build, red face, dark whiskers, appeared to bo suffering from erysipelas ; wore light-tweed sac-coat, light trousers and vest, and light billycock hat. Identifiable.

The overcoat stolen from the stable of John Cuff has been traced to the possession of George Eobiuson, who has been arrested by Sergeant James Joseph Tuoby, Invercargill Police, and sentenced to forty-eight hours’ labour.

Stolen on the 20th instant, from the corner of High and Macandrew Streets, Dunedin, a canvas dray-cover, 12 feet by 7 feet, narrow red stripes at seams, marked “ Blakely, Maker, Dunedin;” the property of Edward Spencer; value £1 Bs. Identifiable.
