Cornelius Yon Hoogendore is charged, on warrant issued by the Masterton Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, on the 27th 'ultimo, at Taratahi, of a life-saving black-waterproof coat, which can be inflated by blowing in a hole in the left breast, pockets closed by pulling a string, and a pair of leggings ; the property of William Benjamin Campion; value £2. Description: A Belgian, a ship cook, thirty-two years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, dark complexion and eyes, dark-brown hair, beard and moustache, cheeks shaved; wore dark cross-bar tweed coat and vest, moleskin trousers, new soft black hat with high crown, and watertight boots ; tattoo marks on one arm. It is supposed he has come to Wellington.

Henry Curtin, alias Kelly, is charged, on warrant issued by the Bull’s Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, at Bull’s, on the 18th ultimo, of sixteen £1 notes ; the property of William Mills. Description: A native of London, a labourer, twenty-six years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair inclined to curl, clean-shaved except lightcoloured moustache, prominent eyes with a slight cast in one, smart active appearance, flag and anchor tattooed on arms; wears a new silver hunting watch, with the following inscription on inside: “ Made expressly for E. E. Metard, Palmerston, N.Z.,” and a new rope-pattern silver chain. He usually works in the bush, but has not the appearance of a labourer. He is known in the Patea District, and it is said that he was employed about a year ago in the New Zealander Newspaper Ofiice, Wellington.

Identifiable, except the money. Description: About 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build ; wore brown overcoat, light-coloured trousers, and hard felt hat; has a wooden leg.

Stolen between the 27th and 30th ultimo, from a shed at the railway station, Dunedin, a large wooden chest, no lock but nailed, containing a pair of lavender-and-gold-painted vases, a white-and-gold-painted flower vase, a pair of crystal-glass paper weights made to hold a thermometer, a silk dress with lavender-and-grey stripes, a green-cord dress with jacket and skirt, blue buttons ; a black-cord dress, jacket, and skirt; two girls’ green dresses, a blue-and-white-priut dress, a black frock-coat, trousers, and vest; two toilet mirrors, one large and one small, without frames ; a pair of lace curtains, a number of photographs, and a quantity of other articles ; the property of Henry Nathan.

Stolen about the 25th ultimo, from the premises of William Gill, Wellington Street, Auckland, an American shovel; value ss. 6d. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from the steam flour-mills at Wanganui, an old open-faced watch, maker Bennett, London, and a small-link silver albert chain with a small key attached; the property of Simon Richards ; value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 2nd instant, from on board the schooner “ Herald,” at Wanganui, a silver lever hunting watch; maker, Rotherham, London; gold hands, steel chain, with a piece of greenstone attached ; the property of Snow Shell; value £6 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man named Sueston, who was seen on board the schooner. Description : 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, full features, fair hair and beard ; wore dark clothes and cheese-cutter cap. He is supposed to be employed in a brewery at Wanganui.

Stolen about the sth instant, from the premises of James Walsh, St. Kilda, South Dunedin, two driving-whips, one with a wooden handle, the other with a cane handle, with six or seven brass ferrules, W scratched on each, and some weatherboards ; value £3 10s. Whips identifiable.

Stolen on the 4th instant, from the railway station, Port Chalmers, a nearly-new brass railway hand-bell, about 9 inches high, the tongue is hung by a chain of three or four links, wooden handle, varnished brown ; the property of the Government ; value £1 10s. Identification doubtful.
