Whereas by a notice published in the Government Gazette, bearing date the Bth day of April, 1879, a reward of £IOO was offered by the Government for such information as would lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who murdered a man named John Scott, whose body was found on the 11th day of March last in his hut at Murphy’s Creek, near Orville : And whereas it is decided to increase the reward for the apprehension of the murderer or murderers of the said John Scott from £IOO to £200: Notice is hereby given that a reward of £2OO will be paid by the Government for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who murdered the said John Scott. This notice is in lieu of that of the Bth day of April, 1879, above referred to, which is hereby cancelled. Bryan O’Loghlen, Chief Secretary’s Office, Acting Chief Secretary. John O’Neill is charged, on warrant from the Daylesford Bench, with committing rape on Mary Jane Collins, a child under ten years of age, at Glenlyon, on the 16th instant. He is a Victorian, of Irish parents, between seventeen and eighteen years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout, has fresh com-
plexion and dark hair; wore dark clothes and straw hat. Hia father is a farmer at Glenlyon. He has relatives at Timboon, near Camperdown.—2lst April, 1879.
John O’Neil, charged with rape on Mary Jane Collins, has friends in New Zealand, and will most likely go there.—23rd June, 1879.
John O’Neil, charged with rape on Mary Jane Collins: Offender’s father is acquainted with a Mrs. Lynch, in Nevil Street, Hokitika, New Zealand, and it is thought he may have been sent there. —O. 2207. —27th June, 1879.
Missing Friend.
Information is requested of John Coles, who left Liverpool on the 18th of May, 1852, in the ship “ Grassmere.” His description then was as follows: Native of Whittlebury, Towcaster, Northamptonshire, a schoolmaster, and married. He was last heard of in 1856 as being a book-keeper on a sheep-station near Melbourne, and expressed his intention of going to New Zealand. He also goes by the name of John James.
