Rewards.

The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Michael Quirke, Dunganville Police, in recognition of zeal and perseverance shown by him in the detection and prosecution of Sarah McQ.uiuty, fined £ls and. costs for sly grog-selling.

The sum of £1 each has been awarded to Sergeants Richard Gamble and Andrew Clarke, and Constable William McClellan, and the sum of 10s. each to Sergeant Henry Martin, Constables J. S. Kelly, Jonas A. Abrams, and Walker, Auckland Police, for the arrest of five stragglers from Her Majesty’s ship “Emerald.”

The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable William Rowse, Ashburton Police, in recognition of zeal and tact shown by him in the detection and prosecution of Richard Riordan, fined £2O for sly grog-selling.

During the night of the 6th ultimo, at Opawa Station, a horse, the property of J. S. Rutherford, was maliciously stabbed in the chest with a sharp instrument, from the effects of which he died.
