Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

HoriPanopa is charged, on warrant issued by the Alexandra Bench, with stealing fifteen £1 notes from the dwelling of Te Hura, at Te Kuiti, in August last. Description : A Maori, seventeen years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight build, no hair on face. It is supposed he has gone to Whakatane.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from the shop-door of Thomas Austin, Victoria Street, Christchurch, a roll of dark tweed with narrow brown stripes, a white cardboard ticket with “ Cheap, 4s. lid. per yard ” written thereon ; value £2 4s. 3d.

Stolen on the 12th ultimo, from the hut of Alexander Cook, Kumara, a silver lever hunting watch, No. 9595, maker W. Johnson, London, steel chain attached, value £4; and a large verge watch, No. 294, maker George Lumsden, A. Cook ” scratched on the inside of front case and on back case, value £3. Identifiable.

On the 18th ultimo the dwelling of Eli Thomas, Kawakawa, was broken into and the following stolen : A silver watch, American make, number and maker’s name not known, value £5 ;, a shilling, three pence in coppers, and four boxes of matches. Watch identifiable.

Stolen between the 4th October and 11th ultimo, from the warehouse of Bennett and Brooking, at Napier, a silver-plated tea and coffee set, consisting of a teapot, a coffeepot, a sugar basin, and a cream ewer ; No. 1096 on the bottom of each ; value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 30th November last, from the Empire Hotel, Kumara, two ladies’ gold rings, one hoop pattern with five diamonds in a row, the other with a small diamond on each side of an emerald; the property of Mrs. Edwin Blake ; value £l9. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Thomas Main, English, a carpenter, about forty-five years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, fair complexion and hair, no hair on face except a small tuft on chin.

The silver lever hunting watch, the property of Frederick Rehbei’g, stolen from a bedroom in the Crown Hotel, Balclutha, has been recovered, and Oerati Perante arrested for the offence by Constable John Hughes, Balclutha Police.

Stolen about the 7th ultimo, from the hut of John Fleetwood, at Ohinemuri, an indiarubber tobacco pouch containing a£s note and seven £1 notes. Tobacco pouch identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 22nd ultimo, from the Immigration Depot, Addington, a silver geneva watch, maker’s name and number not known, glass broken, a close-link-pattern gold albert chain, a dark red-coloured stone attached with a small circle like white enamel in centre and at one corner ; the property of Bichard Sampson Richards; value £5. Identifiable.

TnE £lO note stolen from the pocket-book of Frank Roberts, in the Australasian Hotel, Dunedin, has been returned to the owner by William Augustus Tront, who was suspected of having stolen it.

Between the 22nd and 25th ultimo the dwelling of Thomas Harris, Burnham, Canterbury District, was broken into, and the following stolen : A double-barrelled muzzle-loading gun, a piece about 2 inches long chipped off stock near left hammer, and a piece about the same length fastened with two screws near right hammer, maker’s name “ Garrard, Christchurch,” engraved between barrels, screw of ramrod broken off ; a darkbrown copper powder flask with a small dent in one side ; a shot pouch, the brass mounting at end loose ; and a nearly-new claw-hammer; value £5. Gun identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 22nd ultimo, from the shop of Charles Cairns, Tyne Street, Oamaru, a pair of strong laceup boots, size 10; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 6th ultimo, from the Railway Hotel, Masterton, a letter containing a cheque for £5 on the Bank of New

Zealand, Carterton, drawn by Robert Greathead in favour of C. R. Miller; the property of Robert Greathead. Suspicion attached to Alfred Jenkins, English, a labourer, thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark-brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache. He has gone to Tinui. • \
