Return of Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, Dismissals, etc., in the Armed Constabulary Force. Appointments as Constables. Fergus James Farrell, No. 977. James Cleary, No. 979. Frederich Sayer, No. 981. William Cronin, No. 982. Promotions. Third-class Sergeants Paul Shirley, No. 297, and Michael James Geerin, No. 319, to be second-class sergeants. Reduction. The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Seward Fund to Constable Ewen Macdonell, Green Island Police, in acknowledgment of zeal and ability shown by him in procuring evidence against Crone and Reid, fined £25 and costs, and £SO and costs, respectively, for sly grog-selling. The sum of £8 has been awarded to Constable Edward Coffey, Port Chalmers Police, in acknowledgment of exertions used by him in effecting the arrest of William Johnston, Peter Smith, John Lelson, and August Nebury, who deserted from the barques “ Boldon” and “ Straeathro,” at Port Chalmers. The sum of £5 each has been awarded to Sergeant John Rooney and Constable Walter Bayfield, Palmerston South Police, in acknowledgment of their exertions in arresting Leonard Martino and August Stromer, who deserted from the ship “ Panmure,” at Port Chalmers.

The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable Bartholomew Maroney, Kensington Police, for the recovery of a boat which was taken from the barque “ Boldon,” at Port Chalmers.

About the Ist ultimo, a water-cask, at the Quarry, Logan’s Point, near Dunedin, the property of W. 11. Manning, was maliciously broken.

On the 15th ultimo, at North-East Talley and Pine Hill Road, near Dunedin, several gates were taken off the hinges and maliciously damaged, and the ornamental work around a number of houses wilfully damaged ; the property of Thomas Godfrey and others. Suspicion attached to Robert Leckie, John Henderson, John. Dean, and Patrick Walsh, who reside at Pine-Hill.

Between the 6th and 16th ultimo, at the Railway Station, Oamaru, about five dozen lemonade bottles, the property of William Ryan, were maliciously broken.

On the 17th ultimo, three panes of glass, value 305., were maliciously broken in the windows of the dwelling of John Outram, Royal Terrace, Dunedin. Thomas Rowland Dossett suspected.
