Constable James Spillard, No. 544. Constable James Hollywood, No. 755. Dismissed. Constable James Joseph Parker, No. 829. Rewards. The sum of £2 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Sergeant S. C. W. Moller, Grey mouth Police, in acknowledgment of zeal displayed by him in the detection and prosecution of L. C. Leebeck, fined £lO and costs for permitting gambling in his licensed house.

The sum of £3 each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Sergeant James O’Malley, Geraldine Police, and Detective John Neill, Timaru Police, in acknowledgment of tact and zeal displayed by them in tbe recovery of stolen property and the arrest of William Sandford, sentenced at the last sittings of the Supreme Court held at Timaru to four years’ hard labour for house-breaking and larceny. (See New Zealand Gazette, 20th December, 1877, pages 1197 and 1198.) Sergeant Henry McArdle has been appointed Gaoler of the Prison at Lyell ; and Sergeant John McMahon Gaoler of the Prison at Charleston.

Constable Henry Gordon lias been appointed Gaoler, and Jane Gordon, Matron, of the Prison at Clyde. Constable James Pierpoint has been appointed Gaoler, and Annie Pierpoint, Matron, of the Prison at Lawrence. About 3 a m. on tbe 25th ultimo the meat-safo of Henry Allchin, High Street, Christchurch, was broken open and two geese, two turkeys, seven pies, four dozen of eggs, and a large delf dish taken therefrom, thrown about the street, and destroyed. Suspicion attached to Robert William Jones, a Welshman, a clerk, nineteen years of age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, slight build, pale complexion, fair hair, blind of right eye.

On the morning of the 27tli ultimo, while J. R. Selby was asleep in his bed at Mr. Grigg’s station, Long Beach, Canterbury District, a bucket of coal tar was poured over him by which his eyes and ears were injured, his face burned, and clothes value £7 destroyed. A reward of £5 is offered for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of tho offenders.

About the 30th ultimo, at Miller’s Flat, near Queenstown. Otago District, a bullock, the property of Angus McKennon, was maliciously stabbed with a sharp weapon in four places in the side, which caused the animal’s death.
