Edward Florence is charged, on warrant issued by the Marton Bench, with having, on the 22nd March last, at Lower Rangitikei, obtained goods, value £26 14s. 6d., from Thomas Scott, by false pretences. Description : —English, a labourer, about thirty years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, slovenly appearance ; speaks Maori fluently. He left Lower Rangitikei, supposed for Waikato, accompanied by a Maori woman with whom he cohabits, and will likely be found residing with the Natives at that place.

About 11.30 p.m. on the 14th instant, a man, name unknown, tendered a counterfeit sovereign to Lion Metz, in his shop, in Princes Street, Dunedin, in payment for a meerschaum pipe. Description : —About fifty years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, grey hair, dark whiskers, beard and moustache turning grey, wore dark monkey-jacket, dark grey trousers strapped with brown material near knees, old slouched greasy black felt hat and diamond ring ; carried a leather satchel under his jacket. While in the shop he took about fifteen sovereigns, which were wrapped in paper, and appeared to be counterfeit, from an old brown leather purse without band, which he carried in his vest pocket, and tendered one of them in payment for the pipe, and when told that it was spurious he took it back and at once left the shop ; when outside he whistled, and was soon after joined by a tall man who came from under a verandah on the opposite side of the street. Bd., the moneys of the New Zealand G-overnment. Description : —A native of England or of Nelson, New Zealand, a telegraph clerk, about twenty years of age, 6 feet high, medium build, fair hair, very small fair whiskers, beard, and moustache, fair complexion, light grey or blue eyes, slovenly style of walking. He has gone to Victoria, and it is believed was employed a short time since at Shoresby Hill Station, North Grippsland. He has assumed the name “ Charles Davis,” and early in June last called at the Duke De La Victoria Hotel, Melbourne, and asked for letters addressed in that name.
