District Committees for Facial Eczema Warnings

THE Department of Agriculture's field advisory work for facial eczema control has been reorganised and field officers of both the Animal Industry and Extension Divisions, in co-operation with farmers, will carry out the work in future on a district basis. This article enumerates North Island districts, the constitution of local committees, and the radio stations and newspapers through which warning advice will be issued.

METHODS for the control of facial eczema are fully described in the Department’s Bulletin No. 383, “Losses from Facial Eczema Can be Prevented”, which all North Island livestock farmers should study. Facial eczema advisory committees, consisting, of officers of the Animal Industry and Extension Divisions and local farmers, have been set up to carry out advisory work so that farmers may be fully informed on control measures, to issue warnings when seasonal conditions are likely to favour facial eczema outbreaks, and to issue advice at critical periods when immediate action is required to safeguard flocks and herds. Farmers should discuss any individual or local problems with the officers of their district committees. In the list below only the names of Departmental officers on each committee are given, but arrangements are being made to add two or more farmers to each committee so that adequate district advisory services are secured. Final details of the constitution of each committee and local advisory information will be given in the newspapers and through the radio stations enumerated for each district. In each section of the following list the members of the district committee are given first, the counties covered by the committee second, the radio stations serving the district third, and the newspapers circulating in the area fourth. The designations of Departmental officers have been abbreviated as follows: Livestock Instructor, L. 1.; Instructor in Agriculture, LA.; Veterinarian, V.; Fields Instructor, F.I.
