A unit ~ ' -‘v® recently assembled and used success- ’ ’ - fully to lay down a large-scale trial ' ; ' ' - |||| consisted of a tractor-mounted, low- >„? • |||| volume sprayer, 60ft. of hose, and a 'if Jill 3-nozzle hand wand (with 37.00 solid cone tips fitted), the ends of the wand • being bent round so that the spray from the tips coned in to the centre of a circle of about 12in. radius. ■ Operating at 501 b. per square inch the wand discharged about 66 gallons per hour and gave a drenching spray that effectively wet the base (that is, the ground and stems to a height of I Sin.) of bushes. Large bushes were sprayed from both sides. The 2-acre plot, with well over 1000 plants per acre, was sprayed in 4-j hours by two men, the second shifting, the tractor as required and keeping the hose up to the spray operator. A total of 96. gallons of a f :70 mixture was used. Such a unit could be used on a field basis to treat local infestations, and with two leads of hose and three operators an acre could be treated in about I? hours. —C. J.
