LAMBING ESTIMATES FOR 1950

Young Farmer Leadership Competition in Sydney

NEW ZEALAND will again take part in the Young Farmer Leadership Competition, sponsored by the Australian Broadcasting Commission, at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Young farmers from the United States, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Canada, and Great Britain are also expected to compete. In 1949 Gilbert Evans, Carterton, gained second place, and in 1950 Richard Harris, Gisborne, was beaten by one point. ’ Elimination contests are being held by the Y.F.C. district committees in New Zealand, and the four councils will each select a finalist in broadcast contests arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting service. The Dominion final will be broadcast from Station 2YA Wellington on March 7, at 7 p.m., over a national link. Competitors must be under 21 years of age on March 25, 1951, and must be bona fide Y.F.C. members; they must answer, without script, questions on farm work, club activities, and community service. They will be judged on radio personality, farming knowledge, and leadership. The New Zealand contestant will leave for Sydney on March 16, and with the other overseas competitors will be the guest of the A.B.C. for ten days during the visit.
