This month 's cover

Pig production on an extensive scale in New Zealand began with the introduction of home separation on dairy farms. For many years the methods of handling pigs were haphazard and pigs Were looked upon simply as a means of using up surplus food, mainly dairy by-products, but as farmers began to realise that excellent returns could be derived from efficient pig peeping, management methods improved vastly. This month’s cover, which Was painted by L. C. Mitchell, shows portion of a modern layout in which houses are of permanent material and where good grazing is available for the pigs.
