Education for the Country Child Special assistance is available from the Education Department to help country children obtain a full education. This assistance includes ★ BOARDING ALLOWANCES: For children who cannot attend any school (either primary or secondary) unless they live away from home The allowance is now 10/- for each week's attendance at school while the child is boarding 'A' SECONDARY SCHOOL BURSARIES: For country children who desire to attend schools from which they can be accredited to the University or at which they can take a course leading to the University Scholarship They must (1) have passed the School Certificate or higher examination, (2) be unable to attend an accrediting school unless they live away from home, and (3) take a course leading to University Entrance or Scholarship. The bursaries are worth £4O a year for a maximum of two years. - Applications from qualified pupils (or those awaiting the results i of the recent School Certificate examination) should be sent to the Education Department without delay , ★ CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL: For children who live in remote places or who for any other reason cannot attend school. The Education Department’s Correspondence School is equipped to take children through all stages from the infant room to University Scholarship standard. • ••••• It should be noted in relation to the Boarding Allowance and the Secondary School Bursaries that the final decision whether or not it is necessary for a pupil to live away from home rests with the Education Department.
