- To keep your food fresh and sweet in the hot weather, buy some charcoal, make muslin bags, and put a lump of charcoal in each. Hang the bags as near the food as possible. Charcoal absorbs impurities as a sponge absorbs water. Once a week the bags should be emptied, washed, dried, and filled with fresh charcoal. eKAn excellent way to mend kid gloves is to work buttonhole stitch loosely round the hole, and in. these stitches work another row of the same stitch. Then draw, the edges together, and you have a neat mend that will not tear away the kid. & * # Grass stains are annoying at this time of. the year. Buy some pure alcohol from the chemist, sponge away the green marks with a piece of clean flannel just damped with the spirit,then wash as usual. Keep the bottle well corked, as alcohol evaporates.
