Inexpensive Hinges
FOR a small gate, erected temporarily, the expense of buying hinges and bolts is not always justified,
The accompanying illustrations depict the top and bottom “hinges” that can be produced on practically every farm. The bottom “hinge” consists of a beer bottle set in the ground in an inverted position with the style .of the gate pointed to fit into the depression in the bottle. The top “hinge” is
made by boring a 2in. hole in a piece of 9in. x lin. board, the style being rounded to fit easily through this hole.
The board is then nailed to the top of the post, the gate is swung, and many years of useful work can be expected from this simple expedient.
