Inglewood Club's Field Day

A N observational manure trial AN observational manure trial IX under the Y.F.C. Experimental Scheme was laid down at a recent field day organised by the Inglewood Club on Mr. J. V. Maclntyre’s farm at Waitui. On the same farm the members had the opportunity of viewing sheep feeding readily on ensilage. With the party were Messrs. S. Freeman, Dominion Y.F.C. Secretary, and J. M. Hopkins, District Y.F.C. Secretary. After lunch at Inglewood, members were, conducted over the Moa butter factory by the • manager, Mr. L. Ross, and were shown the complete process in the manufacture of butter - and packing for export and home consumption. At the conclusion of the inspection. the club chairman, Mr. J. V. Maclntyre thanked Mr. Ross for showing the party over the factory.

Later in the afternoon Mr. J. M. Hopkins gave an address at Mr. R. B. Sutton’s farm on the value of pampas

grass for wintering cattle and sugar beet for feeding pigs. While on the farm a demonstration on Jersey cattle was given by Mr. E. J. Clough, of Waiongona, after which the members were the guests of Mrs. Sutton to afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the field day the club chairman, on behalf of the members, thanked Mrs. Sutton for her kindness in providing afternoon tea, and also thanked all who had helped to make the field day such a success. Despite the unsettled state of the weather, there was a good attendance. In wishing the club every success in the future, Mr. Freeman congratulated the club chairman on his efforts to keep the club and the Y.F.C. movement alive, and expressed the opinion that from the spirit and determination shown by the members, the Inglewood Club would be able to carry on during the war.
