MILKING-TUBES: ANOTHER EXPERIENCE.

The following communication, received from a Westland correspondent, speaks for itself: —-

. I note in your September issue a letter from a Taranaki farmer regarding a certain rubber tube and silver siphon milking-machine which is now being introduced into New Zealand from Australia. It may interest the Taranaki farmer and others to know that I was asked to give this milker a trial last season. Considering its small cost when compared with other milking-machines, I realized that if it was a success there was a great future before it, and so I took up the trial with great enthusiasm. I paid very careful attention to the lengthy. precautions advised by the agent for the milker, and followed all the printed. advice and details most particularlyin short, I gave the milker the very best possible show on two cows which were good and regular and uniform in their milk. The result was a disaster for both cows, and after a trial of some months off and on (I had to discontinue the milker several times in order to let the cows get right again) I hung the milker up in the dairy, and every time I see it now I think how very nearly it ruined two good cows. After I. gave up using this milker I became curious to know what experience others who had used it had had, and I wrote to five addresses of men who are supposed to be using this machine in various parts of .Australia. I got these addresses from a booklet of testimonials sent with the milker. Though I enclosed stamped and . addressed envelopes for a reply, it is a] curious fact that not in one single instance did I get any reply. Again, I wrote to the agent explaining the various adverse results I had experienced from the trial, and he never troubled to reply at all.
