Inspector R. Rowan reports as follows upon a co-operative experiment undertaken by Mr. J. D. Muir, Manager of the Mental Asylum Farm, Mount Albert, Auckland : :

No. 1, Rosebery oat: • Very rusty and full of smut. No. 2, Black Great Mogul oat: Very rusted. No. 3, Algerian oat: No rust; good crop. No. 4, Green’s Ruakura Rust-resistant oat: Good crop; very clean. No. 5, Dun oat: Very rusted ; not worth cutting. No. 6, Garton’s oat: A good crop, about 4 ft. high, but practically useless on account of rust..'
