Shortly after the New Zealand Cup meeting it was announced- in these columns by one of our correspondents that the well-known Marton sportsman, Mr. S. J. Gibbons, whose good mare Oratress won the N.Z Cup, had had a royal win over that event. It was made to appear that Mr. Gibbons had been a big winner of doubles. Our correspondent, like many other friends of the owner of Oratress was pleased to hear of this from a southern source, and sent the paragraph along, only to learn latei’ that such was not the case. Mr. Gibbons informs us that the report has no foundation.
