GISBORNE RACING CLUB.
SUMMER MEETING. January and February, promise to l?e<./ extremely busy months for all connected with the sport of racing, and jcommencing with the New Year meetings in all parts of the Dominion the summer follow one another in rapid succession. In making arrangements to be represented Pt. forthcoming meetings, owners and trainers should bear in mind the fact that; entries for the Gisborne Racing Club’s summer gathering, to be held on the club’s course, Te Hapara, Gisborne, on February 3 . and 5, are dtfe with' the secretary, Mr. H. E. Dodd, cn Friday, January 14, at 8 p.m. Wide interest will be centred in this as among the events to be decided is the Gisborne Cup Handicap, of 500sovs (450 soys in specie and a cup valued at 50sovs), one .mile- and a-quarter, which will form the chief attraction, on the opening day. Next in order orf importance i comes the Wi Pere Memorial Handicap, of 250sovs, six furlongs, while other first day events are the Park Handicap, of 160sovs, six furlongs; First Welter Handicap, of 150 sovs, one mile; Railway Hack Handicap, of 150sovs, five furloxigs; Handicap Hurdles, of 150sovs, one mile and a-half; Te Hapara Hack Handicap, of 150sovs, seven furlongs; and the Maiden Scurry, of 125sovs, four furlongs (weight 8.0), for horses that have never won a race of any description. On the second day, the Gisborne Racing Club Handicap, of SOOsovs, one mile, will claim principal interest, and can be relied upon to attract a particularly strong field. Sprinters will be provided with further opportunities of annexing a good stake in the case of the Flying Handicap, of 200sovs, six furlongs, and the Final Handicap, of 160sovs, seven furlongs. The remaining second day events comprise: Jumpers’ Flat Race, of 150sovs, one mile and a-quarter, for horses that have completed the course in at least three steeplechases ,or hurdle races in New Zealand; Taruheru Hack Handicap, of 150sovs, six furlongs; Maiden Scurry Handicap, of 125sovs, five furlongs, for horses that have never won a race except the winner of the Maiden Scurry the first day, which shall be eligible; Second Welter Handicap, of 150sovs, seven furlongs (minimum weight 8.0); and the Awapuili Hack Handicap, of 150sovs, five furlongs.
