TOURIST AND TRAVELLER.

According to the reports of Mr. Challis, manager of the Milford Sound track, the season at this popular tourist resort is going to be an exceptionally busy one, andxit is expected that within a week or two all the accommodation for the Christmas and New Year holidays will have been booked up.

Reports of good catches of trout have been received from Rotorua and Canterbury. A visitor from South Africa caught 16 fish, the heaviest weighing 61b., in Lake Rotorua one afternoon, and another angler landed a nine-pounder. A 71b. trout was caught at the mouth of the Ashburton river.

Lance Lister, the young actor who plays the name part in “The Boy,” in which the J. C. Williamson Royal Comic Opera Company is appearing at the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, was asked by a newspaper reporter for details of his career. This is how he summed it up: “I commenced my stage career at 14, was married at 17, and I’m 20 now.” He makes the pace just as fast in “The Boy.”

A London cable states that the Scottish poll shows a distinct setback for prohibition. Glasgow, the test district, where the drys were sanguine of the capture of 12 wards, showed that four voted prohibition, nine reduction, and 24 for no change. This involves the cancelling of 94 licenses out of 1604. In all 11 wards in Aberdeen voted for no change. The totals of the areas voting were: No change, 36; dry, 10; reduction, 1. The anti-prohibitionists claim a victory over the pussyfooters, and declare “that the result shows that the forces of sanity in Scotland prevailed,” but the pussyfooters appear satisfied with the result, and intend to further their efforts later at Edinburgh on December 4.
