ELLERSLIE ITEMS.

SATURDAY.

Before breakfast, most of the work was of the useful order. First Salute, who seems to be one of the strong fancies of the locallytrained talent, put in work of the useful order. The same can be said about his sparring partner. Arch Salute. Geoffrey, Smoke Concert and Namutere were on the easy list. Thrace assisted the novice, Lady Epsom, to perfect herself in schooling over the little sticks. The rest has freshened up Thrace.

Escaped and Gleaner rattled off four furlongs in 52sec. Lady Frederick and Bitholia covered the same track in 51 3-ssec. ’ i

Te Oro cut out six furlongs alone in Imin. 19 2-ssec., tiring at the finish. Prince Carl, alone, put a grass circuit past in attractive style. Tressor and Commission (as pacemaker) put a lot of vim into , a circuit of the grass track in Imin. 46sec. Bute Sound and Woori put four furlongs behind in the good time of 50 3-ssee. The latter is on the improve.

Ruatara, jumping out of his skin, ran four furlongs in 50 3-ssec. By the time the A.R.C. summer meeting rolls round he should be at his best.

During the week, Grand■ Canyon was indulged in a schooling lesson over the big battens, shaping well. Guianform was tried in company with Wangaroa, but did not take kindly to the timber. Manukau is settling down now, and may make a useful hurdler, as he possesses plenty of pace. Perfect Day seems to be going a bit short.

Maunu sprinted three furlongs in 37 2-ssec.

Scrap o’ Paper cleared a circuit of the No. 2 grass, alone, in Imin. 47 1-5 sec.

Maori Tekanga and Wangaroa cleared four of the big schooling battens without mishap. W. Hawthorn is expected at the old Harp of Erin stables with a team of ten, Luke Wilson with three, and W. Hazelman with three are reported to be coming there also. Soulterina and Soot left five furlongs behind, the last four in 52sec. Recreation easily held Formalin over the same course.

Queens Up worked on the tan. Windorah, looking well; was riot bustled. C. Brown has been riding work at Ellerslie, among others he handled Soot. TUESDAY. Among the horses shipped to the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club’s meeting were: Scrap o’ Paper, Guianform, Recreation, and Royal Irish, who will be ridden by McTavish.

Royal Irish, Recreation, and Some Fashion each gave a good account of himself before leaving for the Bay of Plenty. A. J. McFlinn leaves early in the week for the Woodville Jockey Club’s meeting, where he will have the mount on Prince Hal and others. K. Bracken may be riding First Salute in the Auckland Cup. He leaves Sydney shortly, bringing his wife for a trip to the Wonderland of the antipodes. F. Loomb has left for the Waipa Jockey Club’s meeting with Perfect Day, Heathermoon, Tieki, and Persian King. Marble Slab sprinted five furlongs in Imin. ssec. Miss Ellice sped away from Bitholia and Monocrat, as written, in Imin. 4 3-ssec. Alies was in front of Valley Queen and General Stephen. Aircraft held Te Oro and Bright Light safe from the seven furlongs disc in the fair time of Imin. 32 l-ssec. Prince Carl beat Commission over four furlongs in 54sec. Golden Bubble left half a mile behind in 52sec. Canowindra took a second longer to cover the same track. A. Julian is away at Waiuku. His team, consisting of War Tank, Flowing Bowl, Golden Petal, Slowcoach, and Astray, did half-pace work. Crowhurst, looking a picture, easily held Blushet, the Turnham —Miss Modesty filly, who, however, shows signs of improving and looks well. Prince Willonyx would not work on the tan on Saturday and Monday, but on Tuesday morning went with Dribble over six furlongs on the grass, starting slowly, but finishing with the mare in imin. 21 2-ssec. He looks really well. After breakfast, Gidgi, one of G. Henderson’s team, rattled oft four furlongs in 51sec. Manu alone scampered over four furlongs in a shade over 51sec. Munus, the stable companion to Manu, has been added to the list. < Ruatara left five furlongs behind in ■lmin. 5 l-ssec. Gazique and another finished with heads together over half a mile in 51sec. Guerre a Mort left a grass six furlongs behind in Imin. 19 2-ssec., and then galloped a tan circuit in fair time.

The best showing of the morning was between Over There and Formalin. The former hopped out in front, and showed his track mate a clean pair of heels over half a mile in a tick under 48sec., the filly registering 50 2-ssec.

Quite a number of others did good utility work. Clonmel sprinted four furlongs in 51 3-ssec. Thrace acted as schoolmaster over the battens to Lady Epsom. While coming back to the scraping sheds the mare swerved, and fell on the two-year-old rink, and it looked as her youthful rider (Tinker) had sustained serious injury, but, happily, such did not prove to be the case.

A number of horses go from here for the Taumarunui meeting, and more will be sent to the Waipa fixture at Te Awamutu on the 18th inst.
