OPERA HOUSE.

The Eddy Duo stand out with particular radiance on the Opera House bill this week. Expert wire walkers, the man and his pretty partner in white satin costumes perform some dazzling feats on their slender platform, including skipping and jazzing, and terminating with a daring flip by Mr. Eddy. The couple, well deserved the hearty round of applause which followed them after their first appearance on Monday. Rex was another pleasing newcomer, his specialty being lightning crayon sketches which covered subjects from moonlight studies to caricatures. Carlton Max was welcomed back with his clever automaton “Jerry,” who was made the mouthpiece for some amusing joking, and enabled Mr, Max to demonstrate his neat ventriloquial gifts. Alberto is well styled the gay deceiver, his mystifying acts being gaily coloured by his novel mode of presentation, and there was no doubt as to his popularity. Hall and Menzies are another much-liked pair, Miss Menzies’ clever make-up in view of the audience being a smart character transformation, while her broad comedy methods were laughably exploited through the quietly effective touches of Mr. Hall. -Billy Elliot made another big hit in his. ditty “Where Do Flies Go in the Winter Time?” which he worked on original lines and had the audience joining lustily in the refrain. Ward and Shearman were popular in a fresh bunch of absurdities and musical fragments. Hal Raie caused a diversion with his pianologues and variations of familiar tunes. De Wilfred’s xylophone selections were an enjoyable feature of the programme, the curtain setting being unusually effective. The juggling and balancing of Taro Ysuda, a nimble little Jap, completed a highly-approved bill.
