Affectation and Rose Wreath on Easy List—Bayswater Joins W. H. Corlett’s Team—W. Garrett’s Trio for Auckland Meeting—Mr. KembaU’s Quintette for Great Northern Fixture —Bonnetter Being Spelled. MASTERTON, Saturday. During the past four years the Borough Handicap at the Wanganui winter- meeting has been won three times by Masterton-trained mares. Lady General, Galore and Missgold were each successful.

Horses nominated from this district for the Otaki meeting next month are Gold Pan. Bitters, Sir Wai, Pakaraka. Vitella. Red Ribbon, Timidity, Bonnie Heather, Penury Rose, Lady General, and Bayswater. Moya (Waimangu—Papakura mare), a two-year-old trained by Alex. Watson at Opaki, is on the easy list, and will not be seen under silk till next season. The youngster was not hur-

ried in her work during the present season, and should do better in the spring. C. Carmont is now attached Ap Mr. Kemball’s stable, and will do the riding in future when the weights are suitable. J. Preston will have the mounts in jumping events. Lady General was taken through to the Eltham meeting, and won the Flying Handicap. Although the stake was only a small one, it is pleasing to note the success, as T. Higgins’ mare had not won a race for a considerable time. Affectation and Rose Wreath are looking big and well just now, and are enjoying a respite from active work. Mr. A. McDonald should again have a successful time with the pair when they are taken up again. Martian Miss made her first appearance in Mr. Kemball’s colours at the Egmont meeting, and showed a lot of pace in her races. She should be an acquisition to the stable next season. Red Ribbon has been kept going at Opaki in view of the Otaki meeting, and the daughter of Elevation —Blue Ribbon is to contest the Raukawa Cup. Another member of the stable in Vitella is also to be taken to the meeting. The latest addition to W. H. Corlett’s team at Clareville is the six-year-old gelding Bayswater, by Marble Arch —Miss Lottie. Corlett has now half a dozen horses under his charge. W. Garrett has three of his team engaged at the Auckland R.C.’s winter meeting—Sir Solo, Ohiti, and Master .Boris. Providing they were taken on the railway the trio were to have gone on from Wanganui. The dividend paid by Missgold at Wanganui came as a pleasant surprise to local sports, as the Opakitrained mare is a favourite here. The daughter of Lucullus —Recoup has paid her way this season, and is to be given a spell. W. Hawthorne hopes to have five horses racing at Auckland, and Gladful, Old Mungindi, Lord Nagar, Trespass and Negambo are to go north. Bonnetter is now spelling at Masterton, and will be given a good rest before being taken up again later on in the season for the early spring meetings. A good handicap should be well within the reach of this promising galloper. Although Sir Solo was on the course during the Wanganui meeting he was not started either day, his trainer evidently thinking the old fellow had a bit too much weight. Tenterfield, purchased by Mr. Kemball during his recent visit to Australia, is a maiden performer, although he has .a second in the Australian Cup to his credit. Next season the newcomer should make a good handicap horse.
