OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

CUP WON BY WOODY GLEN.

This meeting was commenced on Saturday in good weather, and there was an attendance estimated as a record one. The trains from Auckland arrived just as the horses were about to start for the first race, which was a bit late on time. The course was in good and fast condition, as the times for some of the races indicate. The Handicap Hurdle Race saw Monopole and Rathlin go out best supported, the last-named winning practically all the way in the brilliant time of 3min. 14sec. and fairly easily from Cymer by two lengths, Oakleigh getting third, about the same distance away. Tinohoro had more friends than Miss Norval and Princess Charming for the Maiden Handicap, but the sixth fancy, Oak Abbey, was soon in front and had enough left to stall off Miss Norval’s 'finishing effort, and Tinohoro was cut out of second place by a length. There were sixteen starters. General Advance, the favourite Tor the Netherton Welter Handicap, did not' leave the mark over well, but he put in good work over the business stage and beat Rekanui, the second favourite, by three-parts of a length. Gaycium was a handy third. Don’t, Machree, Shell Shock and Lady Bedford were the other runners. King Abbey carried nearly double as much as Lightning, the second favourite, for Ihe Karangahake Handicap, but whereas Mr. Hannon’d horse ran up to form Lightning was beaten out of a place by Caballero and Scrap o’ Paper. King Abbey led all the way and won by three-parts of a length, Caballero only just beating Scrap o’ Paper for second place. Tinopai was made a very hot favourite for the Ohinemuri Cup, carrying more than twice the amount invested on Tama-a-roa, Blue Cross being the third selection. Corregidor made all the running from the start to the straight and then gave place to Tama-a-roa and Blue Cross, but Woody Glen, who was a big outsider, came and cut this pair down arid won nicely by half a length, a similar distance between second and third.

Hineamaru was extensively supported for the Komata Hack Handicap, more than double the investments going on her as compared with Salvaless, Tuipa being next best supported in the field of eighteen. Tinokaha, who was fourth fancy, got away smartly and never gave anything else a look in, winning by a length from the consistent Nightime, Royal Abbey being half that distance away, third.

Battletide was favourite for the Paeroa Steeplechase, with Jacaranda, Ranza Mist and Kurnalpi supported in order, but all three carrying less than Mr. Geison’s representative. Otara was soon displaced by Irishland, and Otara fell at the double and Pablo and Grey Opal stopped. First Call then took up the running and was followed by Battletide until two fences from home, when the lastnamed went to the front and won by six lengths or more, old Golden Glow being quite that distance away, third. Jacaranda and Kurnalpi finished, but the others were not persevered with.

Ruatara was a little better supported for the St. Patrick’s Handicap than Queen Abbey, who quickly supplanted Crowhurst, the third fancy, and leading from thence on won, but only by half a neck all out, from Crowhurst, Hineamaru, who was this time at an outside price, being third. Ruatara’s display was not up to the expectations of' his friends. The results were: —
