TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING'.

The excellent acceptances received for the Takapuna Jockey Club’s summer meeting, which opens on Thursday (Anniversary Day), augur well for its success. Ther eare eighteen in the Maiden Handicap, and tone might select half a dozen and then miss the winner. It is about time the big and lengthy Treso was doing something to pay for his oats. Tinohoho and Awareka are a pair we have to take on trust from Mr. R. Hannon’s stable, the one a gelding from Mignon and the other a filly from Millie, which will be making tneir first appearance in public. They are engaged also in the Ferry Handicap and are three-year-olds. The selected in each instance is sure to have followers, and so will Glencanny, Slowcoach, Admiral Advance, Formalin and Hessian, but what will be favourite is another matter. There ar efifteen in the Zealandia Handicap, which :s open, and should be a good betting race. Comedy Prince, Clonmel, and Te Oro may each give a good account of itself amongst the more experienced ones. Crowhurst is going particularly well. Rathlin, with his pace, should be troublesome in the Hauraki Hurdles, tut several will be backed for that race. Oakleigh’s jumping and galloping of late has pleased many. It is just a question whether he is class, however.

The Takapuna Cup should prove of considerable interest. Royal Irish and Tabasco have each aglloped well at headquarters. Uncle Ned, from Avondale, is reported to be in good case. King Lupin and Tinopai will be well befriended if they both start. especially Tinopai. Taiamai reads well at her weight, and knows the track well by this time, as -she has been working there. She is more reliable and should have stood the wind-ing-up test better than Housewife, wl?o is now treated as a spent light. Blue Cross hardly seems brilliant enough, but on Feilding form in the St. Andrew’s Handicap First Salute should be responsible for another merry mile and a-half with 7.5. He can get the distance all right.

There are twenty-seven in the Ferry Handicap, and the selected of Mr. Hannon’s pair, Awareka and Tinohoro, Miss Leslie, Golden Petal and War Tank may be hard. Loved One is galloping attractively. I nthe Calliope Handicap some of the lightweights should really trouble ■Landslide and Tessares, who have the poundage form entitles them to. A good deal of improvement may be shown by others. Hitherto Tessares has not been a good starter. Pendoon may have as many friends as-any of those engaged in the Orewa Hurdles. The going should suit Marconi better than an yhe has met with this season.

The Waikato bracket King Abbev and King Lupin, and the Hon. E. W. Alison’s pair. Rockfield and Lord Kenilworth, if the first-named is reserved from the Zealandia Handicap, will carry a lot of money in the Stewards’ Handicap. Lightning, Escaped and possibly Hineamaru may be handy at the finish
