DAISY KENNEDY, VIOLINIST.
HER COMING 1 RECITALS
It is some years since a violinist of front rank has visited New Zealand, and the forthcoming visit of Miss Daisy Kennedy, the world-famous violinist, should arouse uncommon interest. Miss Kennedy went from Adelaide to Europe to study with the great Professor Sevcik, teacher of Kubelik, Mischa Elman and other great artists, eleven years ago, and now returns a world-famous musician. Despite the holding up of musical advancement in England during the years of the war, Miss Kennedy advanced her position until in 1917 she was acclaimed by the London press as the foremost living violinist of her sex. The London “Morning Post” says: “On broad lines she stands without an equal.” Aftei’ many delays the famous artist was able to leave England for her home country, Australia, where she arrived three months ago. Adelaide, the scene of her early studies, welcomed her back with open arms, and four memorable concerts, which attracted vast crowds, testified their appreciation of her charms and talents. Proceeding to Sydney, Miss Kennedy created even a greater sensation. Referring to her concerts there the “Sunday Tinies” says: “Seldom has such a great crowd thronged the Town Hall. The great draw was this wonderful woman, who by the magic of her bowing and temperament draws from her beautiful Amati violin such tones as most of us are likely seldom to hear.” Miss Kennedy’s Auckland season is confined to four recitals in the Town Hall Concert Chamber, on January 20, 22, 24, 27.
