VICTORY WAR LOAN.

DATE OF CLOSING EXTENDED. FURTHER APPEAL TO PATRIOTISM. With a view to giving full opportunities to investors to subscribe to the. Victory War Loan the closing date for subscriptions has been extended to Thursday next (October 9.) The £10,000,000 Loan, for which subscriptions are now being raised, will be utilised bj r the Dominion for repatriation and payment of soldiers and other purposes in connection with the war and will take the form either of inscribed stock or bearer bonds, at the option of the subscriber, or, Post Office securities. The decision of Parliament to pay returned soldiers gratuities to the extent of two shillings per day from the time of embarkation up till the date of signing the Armistice has met with general satisfaction throughout the Dominion, and should prove a strong incentive to the public to subscribe to the Victory Loan, a large percentage of which is to be devoted to that purpose. The people of the Dominion cannot fail to realise the debt of everlasting gratitude which they owe to the soldiers who went forth from these shores at great sacrifice in answer to the call of duty, and no better means of expressing recognition of this fact offers itself at the present time than subscribing generously to the Victory War Loan. Failure on the part of the Treasury to secure the full sum within the timespecified will necessitate the enforcement of the compulsory clauses, and with a full remembrance of the heroic achievements of the New Zealand soldiers in the different battle zones awakened in the minds of the Dominion’s citizens the subscriptions to the Loan which are confidently anticipated during the extra period granted for applications, should enable the full amount to be subscribed without recourse to compulsion.
