A BRILLIANT AUSTRALIAN-BRED THREE-YEAR-OLD COLT, WHO RECENTLY CHANGED HANDS —MR. W. RICHMOND'S B C SPANNER, BY THE NUT-DUDU. C. SINCLAI RIN SADDLE. FORMERLY TRAINED BY F. GILCHRIST AND NOW UNDER G JONES' CHARGE. During the course of the Wellington R.C.’s autumn carnival, SPANNER, after his narrow defeat by SASANOF in the Thompson Handicap (one mile), was purchased from Mr. Ewen W. Alison, jun., by Mr. W. Richmond, the well-known Hawke’s Bay sportsman for 3000 guineas. In his previous two starts SPANNER had run third in the A.R.C. Easter Handicap (one mile) and won the Huia Handicap (six furlongs) on the concluding day of the recent autumn carnival at Ellerslie. So far this season he has started eleven times, winning on four occasions, being placed second twice and third once.
