Local Representation on Racing Conference — Totalisator Improvement for Masterton Racing Club’s Meeting—Notes on Acceptors for Wairarapa Fixture — Well-known Masterton Sportsman to Retire From Turf. MASTERTON, Friday. Hyades (Hymettus —Straga), a two-year-old in j. T. Jamieson’s stable, is to compete at the Wairarapa and Masterton meetings. The full sister to Hvmestra and Torfreda has had an easv time so far this season. Mr. A. Hathaway, secretary of the Masterton Racing Club, met with a painful accident while on a holiday in the South Island. He injured the muscles of his leg, and has been confined to his room for some time. Messrs, C. F. Vallance and H. R. Bunny have been nominated as delegates to the District Committee, and -Messrs. Vallance and W. E. Bidwill as district representatives to the Racing Conference. The local horses, Municipal and Rose Wreath, were well supported here for their Hamilton engagements, and the win of Rose Wreath on the second day just evened things up. Multicipal was only started once. Mr. D. B. Carrick has been elected to act on the Judicial Committee of the Masterton Racing Club, in place of the late Mr. James Macara.

The nominations received for the one-day meeting of the Masterton Racing Club are not numerous, but the fields engaged are of a good average quality. Tuticorn was offered for sale by auction at the Dannevirke meeting, but the son of Sarto —Chinook failed to find a purchaser.

T. Higgins intended starting Zabism on the first day at Dannevirke, but at the last minute he was unable to get a box on the train from Masterton the day previous to the races. He went through the following day, but the horses were at the post when he arrived.

For some time past it has been the custom at the Mastertori Club’s race meetings to have the 10s. windows on the outside enclosure, and patrons of the lawn had to procure a pass at the gate and journey outside if they wished to have a modest wager. At the forthcoming meeting it has been decided to have two windows on the lawn for patrons of the 10s.

tote, and this will no doubt be appreciated by the majority of the public. At the last meeting at Opaki, when the weather was anything but pleasant, a good deal of money was lost to the machine on account of people on the lawn not troubling to go outside in the wet to make their investments.

Although the acceptances for the opening day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s autumn meeting are not very large, good average fields are engaged. Both the top weights, Menelaus and Red Ribbon, have dropped out of the Cup, and Mascot is now at the head with 9.6. Form Up, Bonnie Maid and Mascot look a likely trio. Nystad is top weight in the Wardell Handicap (six furlongs), and as the field is by no means a strong one he may be favourite. J. T. Jamieson’s stable has three engaged in the Nursery Handicap (Affectation, Murihiku and Hyades) and the elect on the day should be well supported, along with Ermine, the Wellesley Stakes winner.

Mr. A. Cameron, the well-known Masterton sportsman, informs me that he intends to give up racing at the end of the present month. During the five or six years Mr. Cameron has owned and raced horses he has had a fair share' of success, and has always been looked upon as a keen judge of the thoroughbred, and a straight-going sportsman. Among the horses raced were Lady Black, with which several important sprint events were won. Others to carry the black, light green sleeves, gold cap were: Captain Glossop, Ainsdale, Galore, Idyllic, Damien and Belle Noir. Mr. Cameron has given Galore to his trainer, T. Pritchard, and has leased Damien to a Taranaki sportsman. Lady Black is to race at the Wairarapa and Masterton meetings, and will then probably be either disposed of or kept for breeding purposes. Several young horses are at present running out on Mr. Cameron’s property, among them being a full relation to Damien. Another youngster in which this sportsman had great hopes was a colt by Wolawa. which unfortunately could not fulfil his classic engagements through having received an injury to his leg, from which he has never really recovered. During Mr. Cameron’s term as anowner his horses have been trained by T. Pritchard at Opaki, and this mentor is to be complimented on the manner in which the horses have been sent to the post.
